A day in the Life of a college student [Unfiltered]

Snapped at 9:31 AM Central time on September 10, 2020

Good morning! Your big sister here.

Today I am going to do my own take on the "Day in the life of..." and take you through my Thursday schedule. Yes that's right, this is what Thursday looks like, and consequently, it doesn't look too much like Monday or Friday.

They're a family! Each shaped by the same underlying biology, but as unique as the thousands of new combinations genes can make. I'll stop there. I'll woo you with my undeniable poetic skills another day.

Now, I am going to be completely honest, and present myself as real as possible without any pretty filters and carefully selected highlighted moments. (Candor isn't necessarily my strong suit, so I am going to work on that here!) As a student, I am not perfect. I make really dumb decisions that I kick myself for after the fact. I procrastinate, I turn in the occasional late assignment, I ask for an extension on a paper, I don't get the coveted A+ on every test and paper, I miss the occasional class (mostly with good reason!), I skim the occasional (and dreadfully long) reading, and I don't always get everything on my to-do list done.

We are students. Not machines. You are not going to be perfect, and you will make mistakes. Hopefully you can use that to not only grow and improve, but also develop empathy for others in a similar situation.

Anyway! I digress, but back to Thursday's 'routine.'

So I procrastinated. Big time. I ended up going to sleep at 3AM on a school night before my busiest day, which unfortunately for me, also happens to have my first exam of the semester.

YAY!

Of course, I'll take you through what has happened and what I foresee happening.

My alarm goes off at 8:30AM, I get up and shutter at the thought of getting up and taking an exam that is undoubtedly going to require the very brain juice I lack.

I, of course, can't put it off much longer because my first class of the day is Psychopathology, and it starts in less than an hour. I get ready and I'm out the door by 9:20AM. My class is in Regents Hall (let me know if you want a tour, I love that building!), on the other side of campus, and I'm late by 2 minutes. I run in, and sheepishly take a seat as my professor continues her lecture. I take out my computer and iPad, and begin to get ready for class. Fast forward a couple dozen hours and....I'm still here. I decided to begin writing this post on every free opportunity I got during class. Don't worry! NOT when the professor was talking about the material.

So I begin to tell you about what is bound to happen for the rest of my day. Class ends at 11AM, I get a bag lunch because I won't have time to eat before my next engagement.

I find a place with a chair and a table, and I munch on my cold sandwich as I join my Zoom meeting. It's my second training for SOAR. It is a program of which I am a peer leader, and that is used to facilitate the transition between high school and college for first year students and athletes. The training will be over in an hour, which gives me 15 minutes to walk to my dorm room, log into moodle (a website used to upload assignments, and view to syllabus. Much like Schoology), look over my notes, put everything away, and begin Exam 1 of Biopsychology.

I struggle slightly, but completely ace it! (I'll think it into existence)

I am then done with my classes for the day. I take a break and take an hour for myself. Usually that means a nap, but sometimes that means painting, or listening to soothing music, etc.

Then I reel it back in, and begin to work on tomorrow's assigned readings using the Pomodoro method to achieve maximum productivity (more on that later).

Its then 6:30PM and I call my mom. We catch each other up on our day, and discuss anything she/I am excited about.

Then I get my lunch in either Stav (the cafeteria) or the Cage (the café). I come back to my dorm room, and work some more on my homework. Then, as needed I stretch, do some breathing exercises, and some hand massages.

I prepare for bed with my night time routine, and I get to sleeping soundly.

That is all for today. Pretty easy huh? :)

Thanks for joining me today!
